John R. Lindley, 89, a two-year resident of Bowie, MD, and previously of Annapolis, passed away on November 28, 2024, at Tribute at Melford. Born on September 1, 1935, in Washington, DC, to the late Carl Lindley and Shirley Donaldson, he graduated from Anacostia High School before establishing a 36-year career at the Naval Research Laboratory. He also served our country in the United States Army for two years.

John was a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) and the Heritage Harbour Sound and Lights team. He was also an avid golfer, a football fan, and an amateur radio operator. He was also known for his expert bingo-calling skills. John was always ready for a good tailgate or crab feast—so long as Bud Light was available.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Lindley; his son, Christopher Lindley; his brother, Carl Lindley; and his sister, Patricia Lindley.

He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Lindley (Jaimie) of Vienna, VA; his daughters, Amy Hart (Dan – deceased) of Summerville, SC, Lisa Cizler (Martin) of Charleston, SC, and Denise Lindley (Megan) of Towson, MD; his grandsons, Evan and Blake Cizler of Charleston, SC, Adam Hart of Chattanooga, TN, Nathan Hart of Columbus, OH, and Carter Lindley of Vienna, VA; his granddaughters, Chelsea Crocetti of Essex, MD and Hannah Lindley of Vienna, VA and his great-grandson, Jackson Kemmer.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate John’s life on Monday, December 9, from 4 to 7 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD, where his funeral service will be held the following day, Tuesday, December 10 at noon. Interment will follow at Maryland Veteran’s Cemetery in Crownsville, MD.
