John Roy McCully - Obituary

J

ohn Roy McCully, best known as “Roy” was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend during his well-lived 92 years of life. He passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, June 8, 2022. Roy was born December 12, 1929, in Washington, DC to father Hugh and mother Nancy McCully. Roy served his country in the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserves until his retirement as a Chief Master Sergeant. He then moved on to a career working for Pepco where he met his lovely wife, Barbara Mae Norfolk. They married in 1957 and began their family. In 1968, Roy found his true passion. He began M&M Fleet Maintenance Service Inc. with his business partner and friend Jim McGill. Together they successfully built a business repairing and maintaining the Prince George County Fire Department’s emergency vehicles and apparatus. After 36 years he retired from the business to continue traveling the country alongside Barbara in their RV. He was always happiest spending time with an array of tractors, trucks, ATVs, and vehicles affectionally known as “Roy’s Toys”. Roy had a strong faith in God. He led a charitable life and was always there to help a friend in need. Roy’s active lifestyle epitomizes the phrase, “Work hard, play hard”. In addition to his parents and wife, Roy was preceded in death by his siblings, Hugh, George Joseph, and Mary. He is survived by his daughter Leslie Edinberg (David), his granddaughters Kelly Rose and Kate Lutz (Michael), and two great-grandsons Owen and Jack Lutz.
