John Henry Meyer - Obituary

ohn Henry “Sparky” Meyer, a resident of Edgewater and previously Lanham, MD, passed away on September 6, 2021 at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. He was 83. Born on August 10, 1938 in Washington, DC to the late Henry and Wilma Loree Meyer, John graduated in 1956 from the Miller School of Albermarle. He joined the U.S. Navy that same year. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1960, John started his career as a generator mechanic at the Pentagon. He left the Pentagon to take on the role of Chief Electrician at the White House and later returned to the Pentagon in that same leadership role. He left his government career in 1985 and became Vice President of East Coast Industries where he worked with his wife, Carol. They later opened Meyer Leasing together where John served as President. An avid Redskins fan, John enjoyed sailing and doing handywork around the house. He was a member of the Masons, Moose Club and Beach Club. John was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Carole Meyer and his sister, Omega Hendricks. He is survived by two children, John Meyer of Denton, MD and Loree Komsa of Edgewater, MD; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren on the way. Friends are invited to celebrate John’s life with his family at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Friday, September 10 from 10 a.m. until John’s funeral service begins at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville.
