John Pahr - Obituary

J

ohn R. Pahr,a fifty four year resident of Annapolis, died on Tuesday, August 6 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. Born on April 17, 1921 in Baltimore to the late Daisy M. and Frank C. Pahr, John attended St. Ambrose School, Mt. St. Joseph College, the University of Baltimore and the University of Indiana where he earned a degree in business management. On December 8, 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer and served in various posts in the U.S. and the South Pacific. His last assignment was submarine duty. After the war, John was a comptroller with a local Ford dealership. He was recruited by the Ford Motor Co. and held several executive positions in the D.C. office. He was a sales and planning analyst, new car manager and a truck and field manager throughout West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland. A lifelong swimming and boating enthusiast, John was the youngest South Atlantic Boys Freestyle champion and once swam with Tarzan, Johnny Weismuller. He was still sailing at age 91. At Christmas he delivered baskets of food to the needy for the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Elks. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxillary and participated in their operations on the bay. He was also a member of the Hillsmere Improvement Association, the Annapolis Elks Lodge and was a former member of the Fleet Reserve Club. John is survived by his wife of seventy two years, Betty Ann Pahr of Annapolis and his daughter, Anne Pahr Minifie of Washington, MA. A Memorial Mass will be offered at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 21 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, MD. Interment private.
