John Schimoler - Obituary

ohn A. Schimoler, 50, an 11-year resident of Edgewater and previously of Upper Brookville, NY, died unexpectedly August 12 at his residence. He was born on July 8, 1962 in Glen Cove, NY and graduated from Syracuse University in 1985. John was a member of the 1983 Syracuse University National Championship Lacrosse Team. He coached the Mayo Youth Lacrosse Club for many years. He enjoyed fishing and loved animals. John is survived by his wife, Jane E. Schimoler whom he married in 1988, his son, J. Gunnar Schimoler, and daughter, Heidi E. Schimoler, both of Edgewater; two brothers, Stephen Schimoler of Cleveland, OH and Paul Schimoler of Essex, VT; three sisters, Laura Reed of Lexington, KY, Mary Lou Cass of Denver, CO and Ellen Kelly of Fair Haven, NJ and many beloved nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to John’s Life Celebration from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 16. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the educational fund established for John’s children.
