John William Simpson Sr. - Obituary

ohn William Simpson, Sr, 86, of Suitland MD passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024. He as born on August 3, 1938 in Washington DC to Francis and Madeline Simpson. John is preceded in death by his parents and his 2 brothers, Francis and James. John is survived by his beautiful and loving wife of 65 years, Carmela and his 6 children, John Simpson Jr (Kristy), Michael Simpson (Cheri), Frances Troncale (Scott), Steven Simpson, Joseph Simpson (Julie), Edward Simpson (Alison) and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John attended Oxon Hill High School and as he was always on the move, earned the nickname Suitcase. After retiring from a long career as a lineman for the phone company he started another phone business and worked as a contractor at the Federal Reserve before retiring again. John liked to coach his children’s sports teams, bowl, pitch horseshoes, play cards, eat crabs and raw oysters, and go dancing and antiquing. John was a member many clubs including the Southwest Club, the Elks and the Lions. John was able to fulfill his wish of seeing both the Washington Capitals and the Washington Nationals win championships. Relatives and friends are invited to John's Life Celebration on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 2401 Brinkley Rd, Fort Washington, MD 20744. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, 8000 Woodyard Road, Clinton, MD 20735.
