J

ohn Edward “Johnny” Stavash, 78, a 30-year resident of Annapolis, died September 3 at his home. Born on December 18, 1934 in Kingston, PA to the late John and Rose Stavash, Johnny served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955 to 1959. He graduated with an accounting degree from Fairleigh Dickenson University in Rutherford, NJ and worked as an auditor for the U.S. Army, the Civil Aeronautics Board, and the U.S. Postal Service. In addition to his beloved wife of 43 years, Irene Theresa Stavash, Johnny is survived by a brother, Bernard Stavash of East Rutherford, NJ; one niece, Jane Masterson and two nephews, Jeffrey and John Stavash, all of New Jersey; a niece-in-law, Christel Bivens of Germantown; two grandnieces, Lia and Sally Stavash; and four grandnephews, Andrew Stavash, Adam Stavash, Jared Stavash and Nicholas Stavash. Friends are invited to Johnny’s Life Celebration from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 5 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. on Friday, September 6 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville. Interment will be held at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. In lieu of flowers, Masses may be requested in Johnny’s memory or donations may be made to the AAMC Foundation, 2001 Medical Parkway, Sajak Building #550, Annapolis, MD 21401.
