ohn W. Taliaferro II, 74, of Stevensville, MD passed away suddenly on July 12, 2022. John was a loving husband, father, and pop pop. He was devoted to his loving wife Mary Ann for 52 years. He was Pop Pop to 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and a wonderful friend to many. His unyielding kindness, bright smile, mechanical wizardry, musical talent, and curiosity about the world will be greatly missed by both his family and friends. John was born in Washington, DC on October 8, 1947, to father John W. Taliaferro and mother Janet M. Taliaferro. He was raised in Hyattsville, MD and attended Northwestern High School. After high school, he became a printing apprentice where he found a lifelong career. After working for several notable printing companies throughout the DC area, he joined the Federal Aviation Administration until his retirement in 2014. John met his wife Mary Ann in 1966 and they were married in 1970. The pair eventually settled in Riva, MD to raise their two children. Just last year they relocated to Stevensville, MD. John loved spending time with his family, tinkering in the garage, watching and playing golf, Notre Dame Football, Maryland Terps basketball, the Washington Capitals, and playing music with his band, “The Lugnuts.” He loved living near the Chesapeake Bay, fishing, boating, and picking crabs. On a beautiful day you would find him taking his motorcycle or his convertible Mustang out for a cruise. John also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports and would travel all over to see them. He and his wife Mary Ann loved to travel and visited many places throughout the world. John was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Kay Zittle and Sharon Fones. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann; son John (Melissa) and daughters Dawn (Brad) and Tessa; grandchildren Andrew, Maddox, Sutton, Ellison, Wilton, Cecilia, Lillian and Stone and great-granddaughter Natalie. Friends are invited to celebrate John’s life on Tuesday, July 19th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, July 20th at 11 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD. Interment Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD. Memorial donations may be made in John’s honor to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Attn: Processing Center, PO Box 947765, Atlanta, GA 30394.
