ohn Howard Vermillion, 67, of Gambrills, MD, died suddenly on Monday, January 4, 2016. He was born on August 26, 1948 in Washington, DC to the late John Frank and Thelma Bessie Vermillion. John graduated from La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA in 1970 with a degree in Business Administration. He was the Controller at BGC/Gardiner&Gardiner Construction Company for 34 years and loved his job. During his free time, John enjoyed playing the slot machines, particularly at Harrington Raceway and Casino in Harrington, DE. He was an avid Redskins fan, who had a good sense of humor and enjoyed listening to doo wop music. If you knew John, you knew he relished smoking his pipe and spending time with his family; he was a family man first and foremost. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Kathleen Vermillion; one son, Andrew (Laura) Vermillion of Bartow, FL;, one daughter, Julie (David) Matthews of Chesapeake, VA; three grandchildren, Colin and Emily Matthews and Sophie Vermillion; and one sister, Joan Fatula of Bryantown, MD. There will be a memorial gathering at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Friday, January 8 from 5 to 8pm.
