J

oseph S. Blonder “Joe”, 95, an 11-year resident of Edgewater and previously of Silver Spring, died of natural causes March 7, 2011 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born in New York on May 20, 1915, Mr. Blonder was the husband of the late Sylvia Hollander whom he married on August 8, 1936. He proudly served in the Army in World War II. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he had a successful career as a furniture salesman. He was a proud member of the American Legion and spent his later years actively swimming and participating in South County Senior Center events, as well as working part time in the car wash business. Annapolis diners recognized him as a regular at Buddy’s Crabs & Ribs where he would dine most evenings and cheer patrons with his sense of humor. He is survived by son, Harvey Blonder of Annapolis and daughter Carol Evans of Crofton. He was the proud grandfather to Michael Blonder, Kevin Blonder, Brian Blonder, Brittany Blonder, David Evans, Jennifer Evans, Danny Silets and Jennifer Silets and a doting great grandfather to his seven great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Philip Roy Blonder and Elisa Silets and the brother of the late Sylvia Adler and Martha Sheckter. Memorial Services to celebrate Joe’s life will begin at 5 PM Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, can be made to Anne Arundel Medical Center 2001 Medical Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401, and/or the American Legion, 1707 Forest Drive, Annapolis, MD 21401.
