Joseph Carson - Obituary

J

oseph M. Carson, 53, a 9-year resident of Davidsonville, died on April 14 at his residence after a year long bout with gall bladder cancer. Joe was born and raised in Sarasota, Fla., where he graduated from Riverview High School. He was named paperboy of the year as a youngster. He graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor's in Physical Education and a Master's in Health Education. While at the University of Florida, Joe played baseball for the Gators. His team won the conference championship while he was there. After college he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Joe was employed most recently by U.S. Gypsum as VP of Sales for the East; prior to that he was general manager at L&W Supply and co-owner of Gulf Coast Building Supply. Joe was a P.E. teacher and baseball coach at the University of Florida. He was a member of Divine Peace Lutheran Church in Upper Marlboro and the University of Florida Alumni Association. He founded the Sarasota Sunsocks baseball team. He enjoyed baseball, the Florida Gators, wine, golf, and coaching. Joe was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Brianna Sasser. He is survived by his wife, Debra D. Carson, whom he married on May 8, 1993; his son, Joseph Carson of Davidsonville; daughters Katherine Molnar of New York City, Kimberly Carson of Sarasota, Fla., Kristen Sasser of Venice, Fla., and Kayla Carson of Davidsonville; brothers Steve Carson of Bryant, Ark., John Carson of Madrid, Spain, Mike Carson of Creedmoor, N.C.; sister Jean Black of Sarasota, Fla. Friends are invited to Joe's Life Celebration at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, on Monday, April 20, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 21, at 11:00 a.m., at the Divine Peace Lutheran Church, 1500 Brown Station Rd., Upper Marlboro. Interment will be at Lakemont Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of MD, 4041 Powder Mill Rd., Ste. 600, Beltsville, MD 20705.
