oseph Donald "Don" Collins, 72, a resident of Edgewater for eight years and previously of University Park, died of heart failure Nov. 15 at his home after an 11-year illness.
Mr. Collins was born May 22, 1935, in Washington, D.C. He was an airman second class in the Air Force from 1954 to 1960 and was stationed in Japan where he learned to read, speak and write Japanese.
He was the owner of an appliance repair company called Collins and Son Appliance Service.
He enjoyed working on cars, tinkering and fixing things.
He was divorced from Helen Burkett of Florida. In 1986 he married Suzanne Giles.
Also surviving are four sons, Mark Collins of Burlington, Wash., Eric Yahraus of Los Angeles, Calif., James Giles of Laurel and Maclean Forquer of Baltimore; two daughters, Donna Patrick of Severna Park and Kaaren Simmons of Edgewater; one sister, Margie Collins of College Park; and 13 grandchildren.
Services and burial are private. Arrangements are by Kalas Funeral Home in Edgewater. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
