J

oseph William Gillin, 72, of Riva, MD passed away on December 9, 2020 at the home of his son Brian with his beloved dog Sammie by his side. He was born on July 3, 1948 in Baltimore, to the late Phillip and Mary Scardina Gillin. Joe graduated from Baltimore City College, Class of 1966. He was a great baseball player and was scouted by the Philadelphia Phillies. He went to work for Bethlehem Steel for a number of years after graduating and learned his mechanics trade. In 1983, he and his wife started Maryland Mobile Trailer Service which is still a successful family-operated business today. He enjoyed playing softball, spending his time on the golf course, and yelling at the TV when the Ravens were playing. He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend to everyone. His stories could be quite entertaining. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Angie Cummings. Joe is survived by his wife, Joan Gillin, sons Brian Gillin and fiancé Marni of Severna Park, Joey Gillin of Hampstead, Paul Kingston and wife Roxanna of Crownsville, daughter Carole Hedges and husband Tommy of Edgewater; a brother Philip Geppi and wife Deana; five grandchildren, Madison and Benjamin Gillin, Hannah Gillin, Jordan and Shelby Kingston; great nephews Phil Geppi and wife Carla and Josh Geppi and wife Brie; great-great nephew Luca Geppi and great-great niece Antonia Geppi. Friends are invited to celebrate Joe’s life on Wednesday, December 16 from 10 am until his funeral service begins at 11 am at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment will immediately follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 W.Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of Anne Arundel County, 1815 Bay Ridge Ave., Annapolis, MD 21403. Condolences may be made by using the Memory Wall tab on this page.
