oseph I. Goldstein, a resident of Annapolis, Maryland passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Anne Arundel Medical following a brief illness. Joseph was born on March 8,1923 in Baltimore, Maryland. He grew up and attended public school in Prince Frederick, Maryland. His father, the late Goodman Goldstein, and mother, the late Belle Butcher Goldstein, owned the Prince Frederick Department Store for over 70 years. Goldstein enlisted in the US Army Air Corps on December 11,1942 and entered active service with the 211th Army Air Force Base Unit. Upon completion of training, he deployed to England where he was active in Support of Rhineland Central Europe Campaigns, receiving the American Theater Medal, European, African and Middle Eastern Medals with 2 Bronze Battle Stars and the Victory Medal. He left active service on December 22,1945. Following Military Service, Joseph returned to Prince Frederick and in 1946, opened G.I. Joe Liquor Store on Main Street. In 1959, he purchased the Wilson Boat Line at Pier 4, Main Street in southwest Washington DC. Also in 1959, he operated a river tour business with daily cruises on the Potomac River to Mount Vernon. He purchased and operated Marshall Hall Amusement Park in Charles County, Maryland which he continued to operate until its sale in 1974. Joseph also owned and managed several local newspapers and radio station WCEM in Cambridge, Maryland. Joseph was a pioneer in the utilization of helicopters for corporate transportation as an active pilot for helicopters and fixed wing aircraft for many years. He was an experienced equestrian and was active in Maryland jousting events during his youth. He was also an active rider in the Old Wicomico Hunt Club. Joseph was a member of the American Legion Post 85, Prince Frederick, Maryland following army service in 1946. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Shirley H. Goldstein; son Jonathan Eric Goldstein of Prince Frederick, Maryland; and daughter Debra Lynn Goldstein of Sparta, North Carolina. A military honors service will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, July 26 at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd., Crownsville, MD.
