J

oseph J. Karl, Jr. “Joe”, 96, a resident of Annapolis, MD and formerly of Baltimore and Cockeysville, died of age-related conditions on Tuesday, February 8 at his residence. Born on September 7, 1925 in Baltimore, MD, Joe graduated from Mt. Saint Joseph’s High School and earned an accounting degree from Loyola College. He served in the U.S. Army and enjoyed a lengthy career as a sales manager with Locke Insulators in Baltimore. Joe was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis and a former member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cockeysville where he was also a Eucharistic Minister. He was a sports enthusiast and was a passionate Ravens, Orioles, and Terps Men’s Basketball fan. Joe had a love of fishing, golfing, fantasy football, playing games with his family and was an avid reader. He enjoyed serving others and ministering to the home bound and hospitalized well into his 90’s. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Anne Dengler Karl. Joe is survived by his children, Joseph Karl, III (Gina) of Novi, MI, William Karl (Heather) of Gainesville, FL, Peter Karl (Lisa) of Ashburn, VA and Anne Cecere (Joe) of Annapolis, MD, 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to celebrate Joe’s life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Monday, February 14 from 2 to 5 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. John Neumann Church, 620 N. Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD on Tuesday, February 15 at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hwy., Pasadena, MD 21122. Condolences may be made by using the Memories tab on this page.
