Joseph Papetti - Obituary

OSEPH A. PAPETTI Joseph A. Papetti, a resident of Edgewater, Maryland and Cocoa Beach, Florida, died on Thursday July 22, 2010 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was 78. Born May 21, 1932 in New York to the late Americo and Emily Farina Papetti, he was a graduate of University of Maryland and West Virginia University, where he was a member of the 1953 West Virginia University Football Sugar Bowl team. He served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. Joe worked for the Anne Arundel County School System as a teacher, football coach, and Athletic Director. He was the first football coach at Glen Burnie High School when they began their football program in 1964, and at South River High School in 1978. In 1986, South River High School dedicated their Stadium Field as “Papetti Field”, and in 1989, he received the “Bob Pascal Award” given by the Anne Arundel Coaches Association,. He was inducted into the Maryland Scholastic Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1992. Joseph’s life centered around sports, mainly football, lacrosse and golf. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. Joseph is survived by his wife Mary Jo Massei Papetti, whom he married on August 23, 1958, his son, Joseph M. Papetti of Edgewater, MD and daughter, Jana Papetti Trovato and son-in-law H. Kenneth Trovato Jr. of Crownsville, MD. Also survived by his grandchildren Joseph C. Papetti, Kristen H., Kelly G., Karoline J., Katelyn and H. Kenneth Trovato III. Friends are invited to Joseph’s Life Celebration on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 from 10am until a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial begins at 11am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD 21035. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville, MD.
