Joseph A. Schantz, age 96, of Ft. Washington, MD passed away peacefully on May 26, 2014. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Edith “Edee” V. Schantz and four children; Patricia Marie (Robert) Smith, Michael Paul and Brian Joseph (Jennifer) Schantz and Jo-Ann Alice (William) Furlong. Joseph is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
 
Originally from Rochester NY, Joseph served honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Photographer’s Mate. He continued in the photo field and retired after a long and very distinguished career as the civilian supervisor for Research and Development at the Naval Photographic Center, Washington, DC.
 
Friends may call at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., on Friday, May 30 from 6 to 8 P.M. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 2401 Brinkley Rd., Ft. Washington, MD on Saturday, May 31 at 10 A.M. Inurnment (private) at Arlington National Cemetery.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joseph’s memory to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hwy., Pasadena, MD 21122
