Joseph Sterling - Obituary

oseph Van Sterling Joseph “Van” V. Sterling, an 8 year resident of Heritage Harbour in Annapolis, MD, died on Thursday September 11, 2008 at Heart Homes in Linthicum, MD after a 19 year battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was 86. Born September 9, 1922 in Baltimore, MD to Ivan W. and Emma Schilling Sterling, he graduated from St. Joseph High School. He received a B.S. degree from Loyola College and his M.B.A. from George Washington University. Van proudly served in the US Army and later worked as a sales manager for the IBM Corporation for 32 years. His hobbies included restoring old cars and art. Van is survived by his wife of 59 years, married on 8/30/1949, Eleanor Jane Sterling (nee Heise) and was predeceased by his two daughters Jo Ann and Karen Sterling. Friends are invited to Van's Life Celebration on Wednesday September 17, from 2 to 5pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd. Edgewater, MD. Graveside Service and inurnment will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church Cemetery, 11901 Belair Rd., Kingsville, MD on Thursday, September 18 at 12:00 Noon.
