Joseph A. Walter - Obituary

oseph "Joe" Amos Walter, 82, a 46-year resident of Lothian, MD, died on May 16, 2023, at his home surrounded by family and friends. Known as “Joe” or “Grandpa Joe”, he was born June 13, 1940, in Washington, D.C. to the late John and Mildred Walter. Joe retired from the Prince George's County Department of Public Works. He enjoyed old cars, target shooting, fishing, and fixing just about anything. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Walter; a sister, Carol Fischer; and two grandsons, Jacob and Griffin Walter. Joe is survived by his wife of 22 years, Maria Rosa Walter; one son, Steve Walter of Lothian, MD; three stepsons, Stephen Phillips of St. Petersburg, FL, Christopher Phillips of Anacortes, WA, and Anthony Phillips of Vancouver, BC; three siblings, Dennis Walter of Smithburg, MD, Joan Brittan of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Darlene Spadaro of Mayo, MD; two daughters-in-law, Maria-Sieh Walter, and Wilseydee Walter; five grandchildren, Vincent, Joey, Holly, Isabel, and Sophie Walter; three step-grandchildren, Nicholas Sieh, and Alec, and Taylor Phillips. Also survived by seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Friends are invited to celebrate Joe’s life on Tuesday, May 30 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 31 at 11 am.
