osephine Domenica "Sissy" Zagami Commiso, 95, a resident of Edgewater for seven years and formerly of Gaithersburg, died of natural causes May 25 at home. The second child of six and only daughter of the late Giacomo and Fortunata Zagami, Mrs. Commiso was born April 12, 1912, in Washington, D.C.. She graduated from Old Business High School. Mrs. Commiso worked part-time as a sales clerk at Woolworth's Five and Dime Store in Washington, D.C., while she attended high school. Following graduation, she worked full time as floor manager until the birth of the daughter in 1939. Subsequently, she began part time work with the former Palace Royal Department Store in Washington, D.C., and its successor, Woodward and Lothrop department store. She worked there full time for more than 40 years, beginning in 1957. During her career, she received numerous customer service and sales awards. Her interests included reading and spending time during the summer at the family home in Bethany Beach. She was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville for the past nine years and a former member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, all located in Washington, D.C.., St. Mark's Catholic Church in Adelphi and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Derwood, Md. On Jan. 29, 1938, she married Louis Antonio Commiso, who died in February of 1961. Surviving are one daughter, Mary Lou Commiso of Edgewater; and one grandson. She was the sister of Philip, Deno, Joseph, Dante and Adam Zagami. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Ave. in Davidsonville. Burial will follow in Ft. Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Md.
