osephine Ann Gazelle, 102, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26 in Annapolis, MD.
Born on July 10, 1923 in Pittston, PA to the late Joseph and Cecilia Shucosky Talipan, Josephine graduated from high school and, circa 1941, accepted a position with the War Department in Washington, DC to work at the Pentagon which was under construction. Later, strolling through Washington, she met her soon to be husband, Raymond, a U.S. Marine, temporarily stationed in the Washington area prior to being deployed during World War II. After raising her children, Josephine attended night school studying cosmetology. She became a beautician and opened her own shop, Cameo Hairstylists, which she operated for several decades until her retirement. She loved spending time at her beach house on the Potomac River in Colonial Beach, VA where an annual highlight was hosting a family retreat for the 4th of July.
In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Gazelle, Sr. and her sister, Blanche.
She is survived by her children, Raymond (Carroll) Gazelle, Jr. and Carol (Dan) Burnash; her 7 grandchildren, Mark, Todd, Loren, Ryan, George Brian, Melanie and Kayla and 16 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to Josephine's Celebration of Life, which will be held on Friday, July 10 from 4 to 7 pm at The Golf Club at South River, 3451 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. Josephine will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
