J

osephine Harris-Carter, passed away on February 17, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Jimmie D. Harris and Ethel Lee Norfleet. Born in Greene County, North Carolina we’re she spent her childhood until moving to Portsmouth VA as a young adult. She relocated from Portsmouth VA to the DC area in the 1960’s and held employment in several industries. Josephine was an amazingly kind person, who spent a lifetime spreading love. Those who had the pleasure of Knowing her through the years can attest to the love she radiated. She spent her later years working as a caregiver, which was perfectly suited for her skill set. The comfort she extended to those in her care often went above and beyond the normal call of service. She enjoyed, traveling, eating out and attending family reunions. Josephine is survived by her sister, Ida Crowder of the home, brothers Jimmy Harris and Jessie Whittied, sister-in-law’s, Vergie Whittied and Madeline Harris. children, Michael Bottomes, Linda Bottomes and Timothy Shaw. Daughter-in-law’s, Renita Bottomes and Debra Shaw. (10) grandchildren, Tracey, Tangerline Thomas, Perez Bottomes, Phillip James, Avita Bottomes, Nicole Smith, Maurice Bottomes, Crystal Treadwelll, Demitrias Bottomes, and Walter Shaw. (25) great grandchildren, (1) great-great grandchild, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. The passing of Josephine is devastating, the void is vast, the hurt is deep. You will never be far from our thoughts. Suffer no more, you’re with our Lord and Savior-rest well. Relatives and friends are invited to Josephine's Life Celebration on Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 10 a.m until time of service at 11 a.m. at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD. Interment immediately following at Heritage Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD.
