Josephine Kilburn - Obituary

osephine B. Kilburn, 91, a 4-year resident of Harwood, MD and previously of Severn, MD, Odenton, MD, Columbia, MD and Falls Church, VA died on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at her home after a lengthy illness. Born February, 20, 1920 in Panama City, Panama to the late Edwin and Cristina Blanton, she was a 1938 graduate of Balboa High School in the Panama Canal Zone. Josephine retired from the Department of Defense after 31 years of service. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in West River, MD. Josephine enjoyed gardening, sewing and spending time with her family and her devoted dog, “Peaches.” In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Stanton J. Kilburn, whom she married in November 1943 and who died on December 14, 1944; and a grandson, Lee Hensley. Josephine is survived by two daughters, Cris (Ronald) Cooke of Harwood, MD and Margaret Hensley of Moneta, VA; a sister, Alice B. Conover of Maitland, FL; a grandson, Kevin (Michelle) Cooke of Seymour, CT; two granddaughters, Debra (Andrew McFarland) Cooke of Harwood, MD and Kelley Hensley of Moneta, VA; also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Daniel and Sarah McFarland, Chloe and Amber Cooke, Madison Hensley and Josie and Jessica Ford. Friends are invited to Josephine’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Tuesday, April 19 from 6 to 8pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 20 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 101 Owensville Road, West River, MD at 1pm. Interment private.
