Joyce K. Adams - Obituary

J

oyce Kathleen Adams passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at the age of 81 with her son, Tom and daughter-in-law, Karen at her bedside. Born on December 18, 1940 in Annapolis, MD to the late Johnny and Doris Moreland, Joyce was a 1958 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Annapolis. She married the love of her life, John Thomas “Tommy” Adams, Sr., at St. Mary’s Church in 1960. They raised three children and spent 59 years together enjoying life among family and friends. Joyce always cheered loudly at every Navy Lacrosse home game that she and her husband, Tommy the Stick Doctor, attended. Known for the Navy blue cowbell she rang in celebration of every goal the Blue & Gold scored, she was bestowed the honor of having a cow at the Naval Academy Dairy Farm named Joyce. Their many travels together included several trips to Hawaii and the Old Goat Lacrosse Shootout in Vail, CO, along with summer vacations in Ocean City, MD. Truly a “Joy” to those who knew her, she was the penultimate hostess. She was well known for her baking, Christmas cookies, turkey BBQ, holding birthday celebrations for her many neighbors, her generosity, giving nature and her always present smile. In Tommy’s later years, she stayed home and took care of him until he passed in 2019. Joyce is survived by her son, John Thomas “Tom” Adams, Jr. and his wife, Karen; her granddaughter, Olivia; her devoted sister, Connie Asher; dearest cousin, Bobbie Lee Sullivan, two other children, three more grandchildren and countless extended family members. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her infant son, Tony. Friends are invited to celebrate Joyce’s life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Saturday, August 6 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association or Hospice of the Chesapeake. Condolences may be made online at: KalasFuneralHomes.com
