Joyce MacMillan - Obituary

oyce Ann MacMillan, 66, a resident of Arnold, MD and previously of Millersville, MD died on October 15, 2010 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a lengthy and courageous battle connected with complications from diabetes. Born July 17, 1944 in Derby, CT, to the late Arthur and Julia Derlinger, she graduated from Eastern High School in Baltimore, MD and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Towson State University. Joyce taught grades 2nd thru middle school during her career, including teaching in both Baltimore and New Jersey schools before her retirement from Anne Arundel County Board of Education. Joyce was a devoted grandmother to her four grandchildren and loved her two Labradors, Mac and Magnum. Joyce is survived by her former husband and lifelong friend, Barry E. MacMillan; her children, Jon M. MacMillan of Reedsburg, WI and Jessica (Peter) J. Meissner of Virginia Beach, VA; her siblings, Ronald (Arlene) A. Derflinger of St. Cloud, FL, Sharon (Pat) J. Lynch of Salisbury, MD, Diana (Hank) L. Cook of Bel Air, MD and Mary Jane Derflinger of St. Cloud, FL; her grandchildren, Corwin and Savannah MacMillan of Baltimore City, MD and Matthew and Joshua Meissner of Virginia Beach, VA;and her brother-in-law, James (Sherry) MacMillan of Glen Burnie, MD. Friends are invited to Joyce’s Celebration of Life Ceremony at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Thursday, October 21 from 3:30pm until time of service begins at 4:30pm. Interment private.
