ohnny passed away on July 20, 2014. He was born on the island of Luzon (Pangasinan), Philippines and grew up helping his family as a farmer. After surviving the Japanese occupation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1946 at the end WWII. For 20 years of service in the Navy, he received the WWII Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal and four Good Conduct Medals. In return, he became a citizen of the United States and was able to bring his children, Lulu, Ricky and O'ding and first wife, the late Maria Reyes to America to live the American Dream. After retiring from the service, he wanted to own a business and he learned and earned his barber license and opened up his first barber shop in Oxon Hill - Johnny's Barber Shop, which then, over the years, became Johnny's and Dolores' Barber and Beauty Salon with his loving wife, Dolores. He believed in God and was grateful to Him for all of his life. With his family's love and help, Juan Mararac, lived the American dream for more than 50 years as a business owner, as a husband, father, uncle and grandfather. Most of all, he lived as a man who knew how to survive and live a full and happy life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Dolores Sanchez Mararac; his loving sons and daughters, Leonila (Thomas) Hartswick, Ricardo, Irenio (Sue) and Lita (Bob) Conklin and all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his loving nephews and nieces, Marina, Jose (Ruth). Lydia Bayaca, Maximo (Josephine) and Mercedes Macaseib and all of their children; his loving adopted daughters, Linda (Mark) Bowling, Aura (Willie) Davis and Ella Pena and all of their children. Relatives and friends are invited to "Johnny's" Life Celebration on Saturday, July 26 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday July 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the GEORGE P . KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Mass of Christian Burial WILL BE OFFERED ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2014 AT 10AM AT ST. COLUMBA CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7804 Livingston Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery AT 1PM.
