udith Ann Richards Bednar, 82, of 15101 Poplar Hill Road, Accokeek, MD 20607, passed away on January 29, 2021, after a long battle with leukemia (CLL) since 2007. She was born in Westville, IL, on December 30, 1938, the daughter of Martin and Flossie Mae Richards. She was married to “the love of her life”, a young sailor, Ed Bednar, in May 1957, after graduation from Westville High School. They had three children, Marti Lyn, and twins John Dale, and Michael Joseph Bednar. After spending 35 years in the Navy and helping Ed attain the rank of Captain, moving 20 times across country, waiting on the piers for his ship to arrive for 10 of those years makes her a one of a kind special person and a loving wife. She leaves behind her husband of 63 years, her daughter, Marti (Thomas) Cirillo, son, Michael, (Holly), three grandchildren, Danielle (Jonathon Baxter) Bednar, Maria Cirillo, and Nicholas Cirillo, and two great grandsons, Alexzander, and Andrew. She was preceded in death by her son John, her mother and father and all of her four siblings.
Judy was all about family. Her children enjoyed opportunities with piano lessons, guitar lessons, tennis lessons, golf lessons, swimming lessons, sewing lessons, and cooking lessons for the boys. She never changed this approach with her grandchildren plus she was always ready to listen to “their other side of the story.” She was their “Mimi.”
She found time to do volunteer work with the Red Cross for many years, she was a supporter of St. Jude’s and the Wounded Warrior Project, but her recent joy was providing all manner of deserts for the Knights of Columbus meetings and dinners in Accokeek.
This week found Judy standing on the pier again looking for her ship, but Jesus came and put his arm around her and said come with me my angel - your wait is over!
