J

udith May Weitzel, age 85, of Temple Hills, MD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 6, 2025 at home. Judy was born on June 14, 1940, in Union Dale, PA to Robert Baileys and Isabelle Baileys. Judy was a devoted spouse, loving parent and cherished friend to many through church, Temple Hills pool and various clubs and organizations such as the American Legion and Elks Lodge. Judy received her nursing degree from the Robert Packer School of Nursing located in Sayre, PA on September 21, 1961. She worked as a registered nurse (RN) at two hospitals, including George Washington University – Hospital in Washington, DC until she gave up her career to become a homemaker to manage her home’s affairs, two kids and all of their activities including sports, band, pom poms, swim and lifeguarding lessons, cub scouts, provided volunteer nursing services at the local Methodist Church free clinic, and participated in many activities with the church including her favorite of making vanilla and peanut butter Easter Eggs every year. Judy is survived by her husband George K Weitzel of 61 years, her two children Rob Weitzel (Lynnette) and Jennifer Weitzel-Gibbs (Mike), granddaughter Danielle Gunsolus (great granddaughter Iris) and step grandchildren Kage Smith and Christopher Smith (great grandchildren Hailey, Jacob and Joshua), and step grandchildren Marena Puller and Levin Gibbs. A public viewing will be held on Thursday August 14, from 4pm-7pm. A public funeral service, presided by Rev Donald L. Smedley, will be held the following day on August 15 th from 11am-12pm with both occurring at the Kalas Funeral Home located at 6160 Oxon Hill Rd, Oxon Hill, MD, 20745. A luncheon will follow the funeral service at (TBD) A private family burial will be held later at the Cheltenham Veteran’s Cemetery. The family kindly requests that no flowers be sent.
