ulia Smith Hardesty, 99, of Edgewater died on March 9, 2011 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She was born on September 14, 1911 in Shady Side and was a member of the last graduating class from Anne Arundel General Hospital Nursing School in 1935. After graduation, Julia began a 36-year career as a registered nurse which ended with her retirement in 1972. She was a member of Davidsonville United Methodist Church and had a passion for wildlife and nature. Julia was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Joseph Bryan Hardesty, who died in 1999. She is survived by seven nephews: Emory Gwynn Bowen of Ellenton, FL; Milton Bowen of Arnold; Edgar, Owen Odell and Bennett Bowen all of Annapolis; J. Robert Guy of Columbus, OH and Stephen Bilyj of North Carolina; and six nieces: Lois Ruth Rutledge of Severna Park, Doris Belcher of Annapolis, Marjorie Engberg of Salisbury, Carol Cantler and Teresa Schultz both of Annapolis, and Cynthia Waters of West Palm Beach, FL. Friends are invited to Julia’s Life Celebration on Friday, March 11, from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD where funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 12, at 12:30 p.m. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Annapolis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Davidsonville United Methodist Church, 819 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD 21035.
