Julia Lemke, 91, a one and a half year resident of Annapolis, and previously of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, died on Friday, August 12, 2011 of natural causes at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
She was born February 16, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois, and was a graduate of Harrison High School in Chicago, IL and served in the United States Army during WWII in the WAAC (Womans Army Auxiliary Corp) stateside as well as in France. After serving in the Army, Julia worked for United Airlines in their Accounting Services department.
She received numerous awards for her community activism, volunteering much of her time to her senior center as well as Alexian Brothers Medical Center.
Julia was a member of VFW Post 9284 in Elk Grove Village and enjoyed travelling, volunteering, socializing at her senior center in Elk Grove Village and was an avid reader.
In addition to her parents, Julia was predeceased by her husband, Cyril Vincent Lemke, whom she married in September of 1945 and who died in July of 1981 and her three siblings.
She is survived by her son Michael Lemke and his wife Gail, five grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be offered on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 10:30am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD. Inurnment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Evergreen Park, Illinois will take place at a later date.
