June Robinson - Obituary

O

nce upon a time in the magical kingdom of Bowie, Maryland on June 5, 1939, a baby girl was born. They called her June Theresa. She lived a joyous life in the kingdom with her family, grandparents, cousins and other relatives, until reality set in with the arrival of a little brother named Leroy Isaac and the little girl had to go to kindergarten. When this occurred, the parents of June Theresa, Frances and Isaac Ware had moved to Washington, DC. Here June Theresa received her education and graduated from Eastern High School. She excelled as a student even with the challenges of being the oldest sibling amongst Leroy Isaac, Leon Anthony, Leo Francis, and Jane Audrey. In January of 1959, after several years of courtship, June Theresa married Robert Donald Robinson,Sr. on the 24th day at Incarnation Catholic Church. The couple resided in Washington DC where they raised five children: DeBorah, Robert Jr., Randolph, Ricardo, and Ramón. While performing her duties as a wife, mother, and member of the work force, June never lost interest in her desire to be an artist and an author. To skim through her belongings now, one would find stories she had started and sketches she had begun. There would also be poems she had written and completed drawings. However, she did complete her desire to visit other kingdoms when she spent two weeks touring Germany and France. This was facilitated by family and friends in celebration of her fiftieth birthday. As she toured these countries, June made a vow to visit England, Italy, and Greece one day in the future. We all know June was a collector of magnets, match books, antique model cars, and knickknacks. She listened to gospel music, loved to sing, and bragged about once dating Marvin Gaye. She loved holidays, cooking, family gatherings, sending greeting cards, and giving gifts. Hers was a generous heart. Often we would wonder what possessed her to make some of her gift selections but we never questioned or doubted the sincerity of her desire to honor us on a day that was important. Approximately three years ago, June experienced a stroke that greatly limited her mobility. She suffered several other health complications that contributed to consecutive heart attacks on 22 December. Today she suffers not. She no longer agonizes about her recovery from the stroke and the fulfillment of dreams and promises. She rests with those who preceded her in death: her parents, her husband, and other relatives and friends. She now explores a glorious kingdom that has no equal on this earth. We celebrate her life today, her contributions, her thoughtfulness, her successes. Those who survive, her four siblings, her five children, six grandchildren: Shantell, Tiairra, Daniel, Nehemiah, Mariah, and Ramon, Jr. and two great-grandchildren Nia and Harold many relatives and friends, are asked to remember this: “Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, yet in our hearts they’re near. Still loved, still missed and forever dear.” Family and friends are invited to June's Life Celebration on Saturday, January 18 from 12:00 Noon until time of services at 1:00pm at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Interment will be private. Please leave your thoughts and memories by signing the guestbook located below.
