aren Ann (Smollon) Hill, a resident of Arnold, MD and previously of Severna Park, MD, died on December 4, 2014 of breast and lung cancer after a 7 year illness. She was 64.
Born January 8, 1950 in Schenectady, NY to Florence E. Smollon and the late Frank J. Smollon, she was a 1968 graduate of Archbishop Spalding High School. She was employed as an administrative assistant with the State of Maryland for 15 years and with Anne Arundel Community College for 27 years, where she worked at the admission's building and was the first person you'd meet when you walked in the door. Karen lived for her children and grandchildren and enjoyed living by the water in the Annapolis area. She had a contagious smile that forced people to think positively about any situation. She also prided herself on never burdening others or making them feel out of place.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Frederick W. Hill; two children, Frederick G. Hill of Newark, DE and Kelly E. Garza of Humble, TX; two brothers, Frank J. Smollon of Riva, MD and Michael R. Smollon of Annapolis, MD; and two grandsons, Jonah A. and Adam J. Garza.
Friends are invited to Karen's Life Celebration on Tuesday, December 9 from 10am until her memorial service begins at 11am at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Breast Cancer Foundation at ABCF.org.
