aren Joy Mee (Age 68) On Wednesday, February 27, 2008 of Foestville, MD; the beloved wife of the late Jerry H. Mee; mother of Wendy J. Mee; sister of Maurice Hennig and the late Harry and Gerald Hennig. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to Karen's Life Celebration at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 6160 Oxon Hill Rd. Oxon Hill, MD on Sunday, from 3 to 6 pm, and on Monday, March 3, 2008 from 10 am until time of service at 11 am at Pennsylvania Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4010 Belt Rd., Capitol Heights, MD 20743. Box 45139 Omaha, NE 68145-0139 or online at:npsa@ne-polio.org Please sign the guestbook at: www.KalasFuneralHomes.com Karen Joy Mee was born July 1, 1939 to the late Claude and Dorothy (Prussia) Hennig in Lyons, Nebraska. She grew up on the family farm surrounded by her three doting brothers. Karen was a 1956 graduate of Rosalie Public School and attended secretary school at Union College in Lincoln, NE. She worked as a secretary for Rosalie Public Schools before starting her civil service career with the local Winnebago Public Hospital in Winnebago, NE. She transferred to Andrews Air Force Base Hospital in 1972 after meeting and marrying “The Love of her Life”, Jerry Mee whom she met through a polio handicap organization). They started corresponding as pen pals before meeting in person and marrying. They resided in Forestville Maryland. Karen worked for Andrews Air Force Base in many departments, touching many lives, and eventually served as an executive secretary for the Deputy Commander of the 79th Medical Group. During her tenure at Andrews Karen earned several honors including AMC Handicap Employee of the Year, Customer Service Center Representative of the Quarter in 2003. She was known for her work ethic and her love of people. Karen excelled in her profession. She contracted polio in 1952 and spent time in an iron lung before her long rehabilitation at the Franklin Roosevelt Warm Springs, Georgia Polio rehabilitation center. Later in her life she developed post-polio syndrome. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Ave Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She was a proud and devoted mother, sister and aunt. She enjoyed playing solitaire. Karen passed away at home Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the age of 68 years after a brief illness. Karen had such a loving and caring spirit that she will be remembered by many. She missed her beloved husband Jerry who passed away in 1988. Other survivors include her daughter, Wendy J. Mee, a brother, Maurice S. Hennig of Spencer, IA, sister-in-laws Clarice Hennig of Sioux City, IA and Marcella Hennig of Rosalie, NE and 12 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, her parents, Claude and Dorothy, her brothers, Harry and Gerald Hennig, a niece, Penny Sue Hennig. .
