aren B. Presswood, 59, a 23-year resident of Crownsville, MD died on August 20, 2009 at Anne Arundel Medical Center from complications due to metastatic breast cancer after a two and a half year illness.
Born March 17, 1950 in Dumont, NJ, she received a Masters degree in Special Education from Boston College and was a 1985 graduate of the University Of Maryland School Of Pharmacy. She served as a Pharmacist for over 24 years with CVS pharmacy. Karen was the recipient of the President's Paragon Award, the highest award one can attain at CVS Pharmacy. Karen was co-founder and Director of Research for METAvivor Research and Support, Inc., a 501(c) (3) charitable organization. The program offers support to persons with metastatic breast cancer and funds research grants to transition the fatal disease to a controlled, chronic condition.
She was the beloved wife of Allen L. Presswood, whom she married on October 10, 1976; devoted mother of Jennifer Presswood of Annapolis, MD and Kelsey Presswood of Crownsville, MD; sister of Barbara Sniffin of Lancaster, PA.
Friends are invited to Karen's Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Sunday, August 23 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm, where services will be held on Monday, August 24 at 11am. Interment private. Karen's family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the METAvivor Research Fund, 1801 View Top Ct, Annapolis MD 21409.
