aren Joan Yaniga, 53, a resident of Annapolis, MD, passed away after a long illness on June 17, 2016, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, in Baltimore MD.
Born in Washington D.C. to Wilbur and Joan Dove on September 15, 1962, she graduated from Annapolis Senior High School and later from Fleet Business School. Karen was employed at the Capital Newspaper, Davco and Thriftway and in the later years of her life she was an excellent homemaker.
She loved to fish and crab, enjoyed spending her time at Sunny Shores Beach with family and friends, loved to tend to her plants and had a very extensive clock collection. Karen was a member of the Eastport Methodist Church.
She was the beloved wife of Edwin “Chip” Yaniga {2488}; devoted mother of Crystal Leyland of Annapolis, MD and Amber Leyland of Glen Burnie, MD; sister of Kathy Woolf of Chester Gap, VA, Diana Cox of Crownsville, MD and David Dove of Millersville, MD; grandmother of Mason Jenkins, Cianna Leyland, and Chelyn Griner.
Friends are invited to celebrate Karen’s life on Thursday, June 23 at 11 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 800 Wyman Park Drive, Baltimore, MD 21211.
