K

arl August Selinger, a longtime resident of Crofton, passed away peacefully in the arms of loved ones on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Born on August 1, 1936, in Lambrecht, Germany, to the late Otto and Margarethe Selinger, Karl immigrated to the United States in 1958. He was drafted into the Army and served as a Military Police Officer at Walter Reed, serving on presidential security. His most cherished possessions were pictures of him protecting Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy. He enjoyed his time working at Premium Distributors before he and his wife, Ursula, became original proprietors of the Old Stein Inn in Edgewater, MD. Karl was happy that he was able to bring some of his native German culture to America, especially a good German bier. Karl was especially fond of his hometown soccer team, FC Kaiserslautern. Karl loved gardening and traveling. He enjoyed many trips to his home country and the tropics. He and Ursula lived in Lake Chapala, Mexico, for ten years. Karl was the beloved husband of 63 years to the late Ursula Selinger. He is the beloved father of Patty Hammack and her husband, Skip, and Michael Selinger and his wife, Beth; the beloved grandfather “Opa” of Max, Bruno, and Sam Selinger and the late Brittany Bowen and loving great-grandfather of Chandler Boyington.
