K

arl Steven Veit June 7, 1944 - February 9, 2025 Devoted husband, father, and friend passed on February 9, 2025, in his hometown of Arlington, VA, with the presence of his family at his bedside. He was the loving and caring husband of Mary E. (Tippett) Veit for 39 years; father of Erik Veit of Reno, NV, Charlotte (Veit) Angiolillo of TX and her husband Michael, and Forrest and Laurel Veit, both living locally in Virginia and Maryland; and grandchildren Fred Angiolillo and Carlotta Angiolillo of TX. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Karl knew of his extremely kind and generous spirit. He always put his family and friends first. He had numerous accomplishments throughout his life. Karl attended Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA, where he was on the football and wrestling teams. He was also the class president of the student body. After graduating high school, Karl received his Bachelor's Degree from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, and later attended Stanford University in California. He retired from the Federal workforce after 30 dedicated years of service to the United States Postal Service and the Department of Energy as a statistician, analyst, and instructor/teacher of Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People to the Department of Energy workforce. After being a wonderful father to Erik and Charlotte, he and Mary welcomed the birth of their twins Forrest and Laurel at the young age of 55! He enthusiastically took on the "Mr. Mom" role while Mary returned to the Federal workforce until retirement. During his lifetime, Karl had numerous interests. He loved animals, particularly his dogs Toughie, Yeller, Champ, and his current furry friend Rex. Karl received his pilot certification and enjoyed his time in the sky during his younger years. He enjoyed Judo and became an instructor. Karl loved snow and the sport of snow skiing. He also enjoyed the Blue Ridge Mountains, Skyline Drive, and the Appalachian Hiking Trails. One of his favorite pastimes was talking to family and friends, sharing his knowledge of various subjects and family stories. Throughout his life, he loved his numerous Studebaker vehicles and was a member of the Potomac Chapter Studebaker Drivers Club. Karl's most recent interest was electric vehicles; he purchased his own Tesla for his 80th birthday! Friends are invited to celebrate Karl's life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Saturday, February 15 from 10 am until his funeral service begins at 11 am.
