Katelyn A. Sabo - Obituary

atelyn Anne “Katie” Sabo, 29, a 15-year resident of Edgewater and previously of Upper Marlboro, MD, passed away on August 27, 2019 at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Born on December 28, 1989 in Washington, DC to Steven and Mary Ann Sabo, Katie was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome at the age of 5. While she lost her vocal ability, Katie didn’t let her affliction hold her back. She touched many lives and hearts because she used her eyes to speak and tell her story. Katie had two loves in her life: music and, most especially, her family. Her nurses and doctors also held a special place in Katie’s heart. Katie attended Marlton Elementary School and Central Special School. She participated in the Challenger Division Softball League in Upper Marlboro and later was a member of Athletes Serving Athletes. Katie was also a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. In addition to her parents, Steve and Mary Ann, Katie is survived by three brothers, Nicholas of Edgewater, Christopher of Toronto, Canada and Zachary of Edgewater. Friends are invited to celebrate Katie’s life with her family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 1st at the Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 2nd at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rett Syndrome Organization, 4600 Devitt Drive, Cincinatti, OH 45246.
