Katherine Thayer - Obituary

atherine Thayer, 87, a 50-year resident of Hillcrest Heights, died July 9 at her home. She was born on August 7, 1924 in Greensboro, NC to the late James Clarence and Dora Ann Crutchfield. She graduated from Greensboro High School. Katherine was a charter member of the United Methodist Church of the Redeemer in Temple Hills. She was also a member of the Temple Hills Garden Club. In addition to gardening, she enjoyed painting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett E. Thayer, whom she married in 1945 and who died in 1973, and by her four sisters and three brothers. She is survived by two sons, Reverend Doctor David E. (Renne) Thayer of Annapolis and Michael J. Thayer of Davidsonville; one daughter, Nancy E. (Jack) Lee of Springfield, VA; six grandchildren, Christopher (Casey) Thayer of Annapolis, Jason (Shannon) Lee of Sumter, SC, Autumn Thayer of Newton, PA, Beth Thayer of Glen Burnie, Jennifer Thayer of Davidsonville and Shannon Harrell of Springfield, VA; and four great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to Katherine’s Life Celebration from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 12 at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 4 Wallace Manor Road, Edgewater, MD 21037 where her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 13. Interment Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew’s UMC or to the United Methodist Church of the Redeemer, 1901 Iverson Street, Temple Hills, MD 20748.
