Katherine Welch - Obituary

atherine G. Welch “Katie”, age 78, a seven year resident of Charlotte Hall, MD and formerly of Accokeek, MD died on Tuesday, August 17 at Anne Arundel Medical Center due to heart failure. Born on July 2, 1932 in Cumberland, MD, Katie earned a two year Associate’s Degree from Southeastern University in Washington, D.C. She was a homemaker and also a bookkeeper for Robert L. Welch, Inc. for more than twenty five years. Katie was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Piscataway, MD, where she was a member and prefect of the St. Mary’s Sodality and was very active as a church volunteer. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards, reading and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Welch, whom she married on February 11, 1956; a son, Joseph R. Welch of Charlotte Hall, MD; two daughters, Glynis A. Kalas of Annapolis, MD and Marcia W. Scott of Chevy Chase, MD; a sister, Janet Clark of New Bern, NC and a brother, Chuck Delancey of Waldorf, MD. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren. Friends are invited to Katie’s Life Celebration at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Friday, August 20 at 1:00pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Chapel of Piscataway, 13401 Piscataway Rd., Clinton, MD. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Hwy., Annapolis, MD 21401.
