athryn Minerva Rea Clagett, age 97, of Davidsonville, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly on January 26, 2026, at her home in Davidsonville. Born on May 25, 1928, in Bladensburg, Maryland, to the late James L.L. Rea and Parthia Moulton Rea, Kathryn was a lifelong resident of Prince George’s and Anne Arundel Counties, Maryland. She spent her early years in Bladensburg and Upper Marlboro before making her home in Davidsonville for the past 63 years. Kathryn was a proud graduate of Marlboro High School and earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Maryland. She also completed undergraduate studies at George Washington University and Catholic University. Kathryn began her career as a high school teacher at Frederick Sasscer High School, where she taught English, Art, and Music, and was honored as a National Teacher of the Year. Later, she assisted her husband Bowie at his law practice, was a real estate agent, and finally a Right of Way Agent for MDOT State Highway Administration, where she received a State Employee of the Year award. A woman of many passions, Kathryn found joy in gardening, reading, drawing and painting, music, golf, college basketball, storytelling, soccer, and traveling near and far. She was an active member of the Forest Garden Club, the Inkhorns Book Club, the Lawyers’ Wives group, and very active in the PTAs of her children’s schools, where she formed lasting friendships and shared her love of learning and community. Kathryn was married for 30 years to the late Robert Bowie Clagett. She is survived by her three devoted daughters: Kathryn “Kacey" Clagett and son-in-law Paul Haxo of Kensington, California; Martha “Marcie" Clagett of Lovettsville, Virginia; and Jennifer “Jenny" Clagett and partner Andre Pantelides of Annapolis, Maryland. She was also blessed with one grandson, Christopher Haxo of Washington, DC. She was predeceased by her siblings, the Hon. James M. Rea of Upper Marlboro and Martha M. Rea of Annapolis. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Kathryn’s life at Trinity Episcopal Church, 14515 Church Street, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772. A viewing will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at the church. A reception for family and friends will follow immediately after the service at The Venue at 112, 15920 Marlboro Pike, Upper Marlboro, Maryland 20772. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rude Ranch Animal Rescue, a no-kill animal sanctuary dedicated to helping homeless, neglected, and abused animals, providing sanctuary, adoption, spay/neuter services, and Trap-Neuter-Return programs.
