athryn Hermann Peterson of Annapolis, Maryland died on December 7, 2023, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Kate was born March 11, 1945, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the firstborn of William Warner Hermann and Marilyn (Skip) Rohde Hermann. After living in Milwaukee and Cincinnati, Ohio, the family moved to the Annapolis area where Kate and her sister Susannah and brother Bill grew up. Kate attended Annapolis High School but graduated from Fox Chapel High School in Pittsburgh, where her family moved during her senior year. She returned to Maryland to study at the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore. While living in Annapolis, Kate met her future husband, Frank Peterson, who at the time was a midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy. They married in November 1965. Over the years, Kate took on many roles. She earned an Associate of Arts degree (with honors) from the Anne Arundel Community College. In her life, she was a small business owner, an antique business dealer, and a real estate agent. She also was an accomplished artist. She was an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Mary's parish for many years. But her most important and successful work was as a wife and mother. She cherished her family and her many friends. She will be greatly missed. Kate was predeceased by her parents and her brother, William Hermann, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Frank Kent Peterson, of Annapolis, Maryland; her son, Matthew Peterson, also of Annapolis; her daughter, Dana Peterson Springer, her son-in-law, Jeffrey Springer, her grandsons, William and Luke Springer, of Tallahassee, Florida; and her sister Susannah Madeen of Stevensville, Montana. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Kate’s life on Friday, January 12, 2024, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 9 am at St. Mary’s Parish, 109 Duke of Gloucester St, Annapolis, MD 21401. Inurnment at the US Naval Academy will be on January 17, 2024 at 2pm.
