ol. Kenneth William Hedlund, MC, (Ret.) Col. Kenneth W. Hedlund, MC, (Ret.), a resident of Edgewater, died peacefully on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House in Harwood. Born March 20, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Frank and Mary Hedlund, he was a 1962 graduate of Georgetown Medical School. After graduation, Col. Hedlund joined the US Army. During his military career, he served at William Beaumont General Hospital in El Paso, Texas, Walter Reed General Hospital, 85h Evac. Hospital, Phu Bai, Vietnam, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Washington, D.C. and USAMRIID in Ft. Detrick, MD. He retired from the US Army in 1991 after 30 years of service. He is survived by his wife Mary Jo Hedlund of Edgewater, his sisters; Roberta Murphy of Rosedale, NY and Rosemary Nichols of Amarillo, Texas. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service with full military honors will be held at Ft. Myer Chapel, 500 McNair Rd, Ft. Myer, Virginia 22211, on Friday, December 2, 2011. Interment Arlington National Cemetery.
