enneth V. Moreland, "Captain", a 20-year resident of Port St. Lucie, FL and a 62-year resident of Maryland, living in both Clinton and Severna Park, passed away on September 24, 2019. He was born on February 6, 1937 in Washington, DC to the late Van and Leslie Moreland. Ken was a 1955 graduate of Suitland High School and continued his education at American University. In 1958 he joined the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department where he would serve for 21 years until his retirement. Ken's next professional endeavor was working as a Special Investigator for the U.S. General Services Administration from 1979 to 1999. He was a member of Henson Valley Christian Church, Woods Presbyterian Church, and Morningside Church. He volunteered for many years for Heroes, Inc., a non-profit organization serving families of fallen police officers. Ken enjoyed cheering on the Washington Redskins, Washington Wizards, and University of Maryland sports teams. He also loved boating, golfing, traveling, singing in church choirs, and most of all spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his parents Ken is predeceased by his daughter, Patricia; and sisters, Evelyn Hamilton, Alice Wood, and Mildred Tierney. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carole F. Moreland; children, Kenneth V. of West Friendship, Richard W. of Davidsonville, Stephen M. of Crofton, and Kathleen Scheeler of Sykesville; a sister Audrey O'Leary of Port St. Lucie, FL; grandchildren, Richard, Ryan and Amanda Moreland, Ali Garritt, Rebecca Miles, Sarah Kleist, Deborah Crites, and Dylan and Miranda Scheeler; and five great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ken's life on Sunday, September 29, 2019 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, Maryland. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, September 30, 2019 at 11 am at Davidsonville United Methodist Church, 819 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD. Interment will take place after a luncheon at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland, MD. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 5000 Dunn Road, Ft.
