Kenny Catlett, Sr. - Obituary

William Kenneth “Kenny Sr” Catlett Sr., 78, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 1, 2025, at his home. He was born on March 29, 1947, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Billy Catlett and Frances Sclater Powell. Kenny Sr. began his business, Catlett’s Amoco, on October 21, 1976. Over the years, it grew into Catlett’s Service Center & Towing, a cornerstone of the community, especially under his leadership and vision. In recent years, as he had always hoped, his sons Kenny Jr. and Bobby took the reins, continuing the legacy he built with dedication and pride. An adored and well-recognized local, Kenny took great joy in supporting his community, particularly his grandchildren’s schools and sports teams. After the birth of his first grandchild, Domenic, he affectionately became known to his family as “Ga.” He loved his family fiercely, and one of the most beautiful things to witness was how deeply in love he remained with his devoted wife of nearly 45 years, Carole—a woman he cherished for her patience, kindness, and unwavering support. Kenny found happiness in watching his family enjoy life together—whether it was playing sports, splashing in the pool, riding ATVs and dirt bikes, motorcycle trips with friends and family, or simply spending time laughing and making memories. A natural jokester, he brought laughter and joy wherever he went, especially after becoming a grandfather. His quick wit and playful spirit will live on in the stories and laughter his family shares for generations to come. He leaves behind countless cherished memories and a family committed to honoring his legacy with joy and love. In addition to his parents, Kenny Sr. was preceded in death by his sister Brenda Sue Hayton. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carole Catlett; his sons, William Kenneth “Kenny Jr.” Catlett Jr. (wife Robin), and Robert “Bobby” Michael Catlett (wife Angela); his grandchildren, Domenic, Carter, Anthony, Walker, and Azalea; his brothers, Alfred Bradley Catlett (Jane) and George Michael Catlett; his sisters, Frances Karen Morgan, Mary Elizabeth Bishop (Joey), and Teresa Catlett Marshall (Melvin); his extended work family at Catlett’s Service Center & Towing, and many other loving relatives and friends. Please honor Kenny’s memory by remembering him at his happiest and celebrating the life he lived. That’s how he would want to be remembered. The family welcomes shared memories and stories of Kenny Sr.—they bring great comfort and joy. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Kenny Sr.’s life on Friday, June 6 from 1 to 3pm, at Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD where his memorial service will begin at 3pm.
