Kevin J. Smith - Obituary

evin J. Smith, age 79, of Annapolis, Maryland passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021. Kevin was born in San Francisco, California on February 20th, 1942 to A.V. and Claire Smith. He was raised in Belmont, California, was active in Sea Scouts and graduated from California State University Maritime Academy with a BS in Marine Engineering. After graduation, he went to work as an Engineer with Military Sea Transportation Service and traveled the world on ships. Westinghouse Electric then hired Kevin to work on the Polaris Missile Program at Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia. He later worked with Gould Chesapeake Instrument Division, Sachs Freeman & Associates, BAE Systems and finished his professional career with Northrup Grumman as a Senior Project Engineer. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Susan. Kevin is survived by his wife of 56 years Elfriede, his son Morgan, daughter Stephanie, brother Brian, sister-in-law Rennie, brother-in-law James Abbate, one niece and two nephews. His interests included history, the Peer Learning Partnership at AACC, travel, yoga, Tai Chi, and sailing the Chesapeake Bay, the Caribbean Sea and Mediterranean Sea. Friends are invited to celebrate Kevin’s life at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 11 am to 2 pm.
