imberly Ann Eckel “Kimmy”, 61, a resident pf Edgewater, MD for 61 years, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, in Washington D.C. Born on May 3, 1965, to the late Eugene R. and Janet H. (Gilner) Best in Washington D.C. Kim graduated from South River high school in 1983 and later attended Anne Arundel Community College. Following her time in college, she worked in the home healthcare industry and volunteered at the South River Healthcare Center. Outside of work, Kim loved spending time with her family and friends, she enjoyed gardening, crafts, and trips to the ocean.
Kim is survived by her loving husband, Daniel A. Eckel; her three sons, Joshua (Elena) of Upper Marlboro, MD, Joseph (Shannon) of Pasadena, MD, and Jeremy (Mary) of Preston, MD; her siblings, Eugene R. Best, Jr. of Mechanicsville, MD, Kathy of Edgewater, MD, Karen of Great Mills, MD, Patty of Lusby, MD, and Sheryl of Mechanicsville, MD; her granddaughter, Karlee Eckel; as well as a loving aunt to her nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Kim is also survived by many friends whom she loved.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Kim’s life on Thursday, May 14, from 10 AM to 12 PM at the Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD where her funeral service will be held at 12 PM. Interment will follow at 1:45 PM at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Crownsville, 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd, Crownsville, MD.
