Kimberly J. Hirsig - Obituary

K

imberly “Kim” Joyce Hirsig, 63, a 30 plus year resident of Lothian, Maryland and previously of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania passed away on November 24, 2023 after a 2 year battle with lung cancer. She was born on October 4, 1960 in Annapolis, MD. Kim graduated from South Park High School in South Park, PA in 1978, and went on to develop a 30-year career as a property manager. When she was younger, Kim briefly played the drums in the MacDonald Pipe Band with her father. She was also a very talented guitar player, and could still pick it up now and then. Kim was a true Pittsburgh fan and loved wearing her Black and Gold. She was proud of her home, keeping it “just so” and proudly displaying beautiful décor and cherished treasures from her family. Her position as a property manager, most recently with Majerle Management, gave her a great deal of satisfaction. Kim spoke often with love and gratitude about her work family. She worked long hours and if you called her in the evening, she most likely told you that she would call you back because she had a board meeting with one of her HOAs. Kim fought like a champ during her illness. With many personal and professional accomplishments Kim achieved throughout her life, nothing or no one gave her more pride and joy than her son, Josh. She enjoyed cheering him on at all of his various activities, watching school performances, and now as an adult Kim beamed with pride watching him play the drums with various bands. Josh was “Mama Duke’s” best friend, protector, and round-the-clock caregiver. Our family could not be more thankful for and proud of Josh. Kim is preceded in death by her parents John Joyce and Barbara (Devlin) Joyce. She is survived by her son, Joshua Newmeyer of Lothian, MD; siblings, Tracy (Scott) Podgorski and Brian (Erin) Joyce of South Park, PA; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and lifelong best friends. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations, we would sincerely appreciate you reaching out to Josh and showing him love and kindness during this very difficult time.
