Kirk Mathers - Obituary

irk Edward Mathers, a 5-year resident of Mayo and previously of North Beach died at his home on September 17, 2013 of lung cancer after a 1-year illness. He was 51. Affectionately known as Eddie, he was born on February 22, 1962 at Leland Memorial Hospital in Riverdale to Constance Schrom and the late James Mathers, Sr.. Eddie graduated from Bladensburg High School and worked, doing construction, at Hopkins and Wayson in Owings, and also worked as a cabinet maker, carpenter and drapery installer. He enjoyed playing poker with friends, NASCAR racing and Dallas Cowboys football. Eddie is survived by a son, Kirk Edward Mathers, II of Martinsburg, WV; his former wife, Stacy DeWard; three brothers, Jimmy Mathers of Bennington, VT, Ronnie Mathers of Petersburg, WV and Richard Schrom of Mayo; three grandchildren, Dawson Kirk of Waynesboro, PA, Ava Mathers of Hagestown and Addison Nichole of Martinsburg, WV; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and great-aunts. Friends are invited to Kirk’s Life Celebration on Saturday, September 21 from 2pm until a funeral service begins at 4pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater.
