Konstantinos G. Filiopoulos - Obituary

K

onstantinos Filiopoulos, 92, a 54-year resident of Annapolis, Maryland, fell asleep in the Lord peacefully on Wednesday, May 31st, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 17th, 1931, in Oropedio, Grevena, Greece, to the late George and Daphne Filiopoulos, he will be remembered for his loyalty to his family and faith. “Papou” was always kind, giving and generous, and of a gentle nature. He was the beloved husband of 67 years to Stella, the loving father of Chris Filiopoulos and Daphne and Phil Galiano, and the cherished Papou of Joseph (Lina), Christina, and Eli Galiano. He is also survived by his brother Filip (Theodora) Filiopoulos and many nieces and nephews here, in Greece, and in Australia. He was predeceased by his brother Christos Filiopoulos and sisters Kaliope Toliopoulos and Vaia Goudounis. His early years in Greece were met with the trials of poverty, the Italian and German occupations of Greece, and subsequent burning of his village, and the ensuing civil war. Later, to provide for his family, he worked in Dusseldorf, Germany, in the early 1960s. Then in 1969, he and his wife decided to pursue the American dream of better educational and economic opportunities for their children and immigrated to America, joining his sister Vaia and brother Filip in Annapolis, Maryland, to begin their new life. He worked in construction as a mason for the Robert A. Wolfe Company, working in many notable projects in the Annapolis area such as the industrial complex at Chinquapin Round Road and the Calvary United Methodist Church. Afterwards, he and his brother Filip formed F&C Filiopoulos Masonry Contractors and continued to apply their “old world” masonry skills and outstanding work ethic to many commercial and residential projects in the Annapolis area and the Eastern Shore. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on various woodworking and cabinetry projects and joining his wife in their various church activities. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids for Sunday family dinners. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Tuesday, June 6th from 5 to 8 PM at Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 7 at 11 AM at Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2747 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD. Interment will follow at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church at this link: HERE May his memory be eternal.
